Are passive managed funds (index funds) really better than active managed ones?

I think it really depends on your risk tolerance. One excellent argument in favor of index investing is that passive managed funds have lower management fees. However, I’m not sure you can really beat the bench mark with index funds. Active managed funds, on the other hand, can occasionally beat the bench mark but it depends on how good (or lucky) the management is.
